A CANADIAN PIONEER
PROFESSIONAL WOMAN
(my mother)

 

Edith Margaret Woodsworth (1900-1981) earned an academic degree from the University of Manitoba in the early 1920s.  Soon thereafter she embarked on a professional career in several fields, from working at Canada House in London to joint ownership (with two other women) of her own real estate firm in Vancouver.  Not only that, but she was an active participant in both the Canadian and International Federation of University Women.  Her work in this capacity indirectly provided the catalyst which eventually launched her son's career as a Russian-language specialist. 

Today, on the 104th anniversary of her birth (8 Sept. 2004), I feel it is time to share her life with a broader public through this website.
